HOT: Desmond and Molly Jones, 615 Stanley St, Woolloongabba

This little café on Stanley Street, order half a block from the Mater Hospital, mind is a favourite breakfast place of ours. Decked out with eclectic vintage furniture and a lively and down-to-earth staff, mind it is the atmosphere that keeps us coming back to Desmond and Molly Jones, as much as the food and the coffee.

On a recent visit with friends we had Turkish bread with homemade jam and homemade crumpets. Most of the foods are quite original, and a pleasant change from the usual breakfast staples of bacon, eggs and sausages with extra grease.

Don’t expect a peaceful experience, though – the staff do not shy away from a bit of noisy banter with the locals. Between that, and the tapping of espresso machine filters and the Stanley Street traffic, it is not exactly serene. But it is fun.
