HOT – Bang Coffee Bar – 133A Kirkland Ave, Coorparoo

Yay for more cafes in the Coorparoo area!

Bang Coffee Bar is a new and very welcome addition to the Coorparoo cafe scene.  With quick, discount easy, story fare on the breakfast and snack menu, minimal clutter, clean lines and ample floor space, Bang Coffee Bar is probably best described as a simple, but effective cafe experience.

The quaint and eccentric decor is definitely an attraction – from the bold, bottle green walls and the Campbell’s soup tin light fittings, to the old school gasoline pump water fridge in the corner.  There’s also (possibly) the world’s smallest foosball table!

In line with the menu, MM and I kept things pretty straightforward for our brekky date – both of us testing the Bang team on their cappuccino skills to kick things off.  Unfortunately we weren’t particularly impressed….the coffees ($3.50) were served in cups smaller than your standard size and both were bitter and burnt – not beyond the point of undrinkable mind you, but there was definitely room for improvement.

MM decided on the sour dough with butter and vegemite ($4.50), whilst I opted for the sour dough with avocado salsa ($6.50).  Both dishes were very elegantly presented on their very own wooden chopping boards – the serving size was generous and the bread toasted perfectly.

My avocado salsa was served in the cutest little lightening jar which was a nice touch; the chunky salsa was a lovely, subtle blend of avocado with a touch of lemon, and basil (or perhaps some other form of greenery?).

We enjoyed our breakfast over some light and friendly banter with the cafe managers (who are clearly still trying to settle into the swing of things), whilst soaking up the lovely surrounds and stimulating decor.

I suppose Bang Coffee Bar is still finding its feet with regards to its people and processes, and how to make things click with the perception to customers that it’s all very effortless.  The menu has several basic but popular options such as cereal (even coco pops!), toast and spreads, savoury toasties and some sweet cakes, but you won’t find a cooked egg or pancake in the house (well, not yet anyway).  With a few more months under their belt, the potential for Bang Coffee Bar will be huge and if they sort their coffees out, it will be hard to beat.
